Where is God when the storm rages

Where is God when the storm rages? “‘And since neither the sun nor the stars were visible for several days and there was no small storm raging, in the end all hope of being saved was lost.” Acts 27:20 VAB There are times when God seems unavailable. When you pray, you feel abandoned in your current circumstances. And not only abandoned, but also frightened and even hopeless. Paul understood that feeling. He longed for an opportunity to preach in Rome and was on his way there when a hurricane destroyed his ship.

Paul not only predicted the loss of the ship, the entire crew and cargo, but also “their lives” (v. 10). He tried to warn the crew about the impending tragedy, but his words were ignored by the people in charge. In short, Paul and 276 others were put in a life-threatening situation and there was nothing he could do. With a feeling of despair, he and his faithful friends declared, “At last all hope of being saved!” And after fourteen days, while they were lost at sea—when the hurricane was at its fiercest—God sent an angel. “Don’t be afraid, Paul… God graciously grants you the lives of all who sail with you” (v. 24, VAB).

When it seems that Paul’s burning desire to preach in Rome will be thwarted, God faithfully guides them through the storm to the exact destination He has planned for them. Paul was to go to Rome and proclaim God’s Word before Caesar! Are you caught in a storm? Whatever trial you’re going through today, know this: you can trust God to see you through it. He determines “the end before the beginning” (Isaiah 46:10), so that you come out of that trial stronger and wiser. Bible: 2. Kings 7 – 9, Acts 9:1-22.
