A light on the edge of town

13 Roma families live on the outskirts of the city, far from the eyes of the people of Zagreb. The majority of the residents of these shacks are children, almost 60 of them, who live in extremely poor housing and hygiene conditions and are hungry most of the time.

Some time ago, these families were cared for and visited by EPC Novi Zagreb volunteers, and from April 2020, the project “Zagreb Roma project” started, which is jointly implemented by EPC Novi Zagreb and the association Etno Nova, and the financial project is supported by Orphan’s Promise. In the first phase of the project, the goal is to help families through donations of food, hygiene items, clothes and shoes through weekly visits to the settlement, and to help children through various educational workshops and programs. Learning about good values based on biblical truths will be carried out through Superknjiga Academy. The greatest treasure that we can and want to convey to them is contained in the Good News through which they can receive Hope and the Future.

A way out of the circle of poverty is possible when healthy family foundations are laid, when people are not fed only with bread, but are given the opportunity to take care of their families, and through family support, an opportunity is given to raise a new generation of Roma children. Children who will bring Hope to others without Hope.
